1.1 Update

Hello everyone! Today I've launched a significant rules update to the Vigilant system that incorporates some rules from the Omnium-gatherums into the main book, alongside some other major updates.

  • Critical Hit Overhaul
    • Critical hits have been revised completely to streamline play, minimize combat math, and allow for unique effects to better distinguish individual weapons.
    • Previously critical hits dealt damage equal to the difference between the attack roll and the defender's Physical TN. This was neat, as it rewarded an attacker for dumping huge fistfuls of dice into an attack, but in practice it slowed play down as Gamemasters had to do a bunch of addition and subtraction to determine damage.
    • Critical hits are still triggered in the same way - by requiring doubles, triples, etc... on an attack roll, but in addition they now have an integer threshold that the dice multiples must meet or exceed for a critical to trigger. For example, under the new system a weapon with a critical value of Doubles(3+) would trigger a critical hit on any multiples of 3 or greater within an attack roll, but would not trigger on double 2s.
    • Critical hits now apply a unique modifier depending on the weapon type rather than applying damage based on the difference between the attack roll and the defender's Physical TN. This keeps the math player-facing and requires the GM to know less stuff mid-combat. Effects can range from bonus damage, to restoring physical dice, to dazing opponents, to even applying devastating effects like Bleeding Out!
  • "New" Races
    • The Forebearer and Goblin races from Omnium-Gatherum I have been added to the main book
      • They have also been included in the Height / Weight chart
  • Scenes & Skills
    • The non-combat encounter rules from Omnium-Gatherum III have been incorporated into the main rules
    • Skill descriptions that would have conflicted with the scenes rules have been updated accordingly
  • Editing and Visual Update
    • Several edits for clarity and grammar have been done throughout the book. This is an ongoing process as I'm just one dude. If you catch anything I may have missed please shoot me a message on twitter @GordonsheadCo; I'll give it a fix and credit you in a contributors section at the end of the book!
    • Some significant visual updates have been done to tidy up table placement, readability, and text formatting. There's colour now!

Thank you to all who have taken a look at Vigilant!
