Vigilant

Vigilant takes place within a vast and ineffable congregation of planes forged by gods long lost to legend. For the mortals who roam the reborn planes it is an era known as the Third Age; a time of potential and discovery as new kingdoms are built and mighty treasures of the ancient past are rediscovered. Forgotten worlds lay wild and unbound, teeming with unknowable relics of power guarded by dread horrors of war-torn ages long past. Old gods seek to reclaim their dominion through the favor of mortals as new gods rise to challenge the broken order of their predecessors, igniting chaos and death as they struggle for the last vestiges of glory amidst the dying planes.

You are an adventurer in this realm, or of such skill to be considered one. Although your power is little compared to the forces that inhabit the vast planes, you have been born into a time where even those with the faintest wisp of might may rise to greatness.

Vigilant is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game that takes the design themes of OSR and says 'well what if we did this, but with a psychotically deep combat system that gives players hundreds of shifting tactical options each round, more systems that reward player skill over chance, and an open-ended progression that allows for literally millions of unique character builds?' Are you the kind of psycho who wants a horrendously deadly OSR-style game but with modern rules scaffolding and deep tactical combat? Well this game is for you, you special guy. And if you're the kind of person who read all that and is terrified, well we've done a fantastic job at making this game pretty easy to pick up: the entirety of the combat rules are less than 25 pages, and Vigilant has fewer attributes, skills and derived stats to memorize and understand than most other systems of similar length!

This project is fully playable in its current state with all player-facing rules finalized (in its current state this book is basically the dungeons & dragons 'Player's Handbook' equivalent).
